Our Mission and Principles

Dedicated to the neutral and evidence-based study of American industrial history.

Our Purpose

Fostering Historical Understanding

An old library with rows of books.

The Industrialist Archives was established to serve as a premier online resource for the analytical study of the men, women, and movements that defined American industrialization. Our core mission is to bridge the gap between specialized academic research and a public audience seeking to understand the foundations of the modern economy and society.

We believe that a comprehensive understanding of figures like Carnegie, Rockefeller, Morgan, and Ford requires moving beyond simplistic narratives. Our work delves into the complex interplay of technological innovation, business strategy, capital formation, labor relations, and regulatory environments that characterized their eras. We are committed to presenting this history with the nuance and context it deserves.

Our Guidelines

Commitment to Editorial Integrity

⚖️

Strict Neutrality

We analyze historical events and figures without pre-ordained judgment. Our content is structured to present evidence and scholarly interpretation, not to promote a specific viewpoint.

📚

Evidence-Based Research

Every article is grounded in primary sources, such as archival documents and correspondence, and is contextualized with established secondary historical scholarship.

🌍

Contextual Analysis

We evaluate historical actors and their decisions within the technological, social, and legal frameworks of their time, avoiding anachronistic moralizing.

✍️

Clarity and Accessibility

While maintaining academic rigor, we strive to make complex historical and economic concepts accessible to a broad readership without oversimplification.

🔍

Analytical Depth

Our focus extends beyond biography to the analysis of systems, strategies, and long-term impacts on industry, society, and governance.

🤝

Intellectual Honesty

We acknowledge differing historical interpretations and present controversies or debates on a topic when they are relevant and supported by scholarship.

Our Process

A brief overview of how our content is created and published.

What sources are used for your articles?

Our analysis is built upon a foundation of primary sources, including congressional records, corporate ledgers, personal correspondence, patent filings, and period newspapers. These are synthesized with insights from established secondary sources from university presses and peer-reviewed journals to provide a comprehensive view.

How do you ensure neutrality?

Neutrality is maintained through a multi-stage editorial process. Each submitted article is reviewed by at least two members of our editorial board. The review focuses on verifying factual claims, checking sources, and challenging any language that appears to be biased, speculative, or unsupported by evidence.

Do you accept article submissions?

We are a curated publication and typically commission articles directly from scholars within our network. However, we have a formal submissions process for qualified academics and historians. Please use the contact form to request our submission guidelines if you hold relevant credentials and wish to propose an article.
